The Activity of the Soul – Japa
(Inspired from the lecture of Prashanta Mata ji )
The soul is eternally connected with Krishna, but due to forgetfulness, that relationship becomes covered. Japa is the soul’s heartfelt call to reconnect with its eternal Lord. It is not merely the repetition of a mantra; it is a sincere prayer offered with humility, dependence, and faith. Every bead is an opportunity to move one step closer to Krishna.
Chant with the Right Consciousness
While chanting, we can pray:
“My dear Krishna, I have committed countless mistakes. Please purify my heart, forgive my offenses, and bless me with spiritual knowledge. I am calling out to You—please accept me.”
Japa becomes powerful when we chant with consciousness, not just with our lips.
Protect the Holy Name
To experience the full mercy of the Holy Name:
* Do not criticize others. * Do not listen to criticism. * Never disrespect Krishna, Guru, or the Vaiṣṇavas.
The most serious offenses are Guru-aparādha and Vaiṣṇava-aparādha.
Humility – The Mood of Japa
Real chanting begins with humility.
Pride comes from identifying with temporary things like beauty, wealth, education, or position. But these are all temporary.
True humility comes from realizing:
* I am not this body. * I am an eternal soul. * I am fully dependent on Krishna. * I am the servant of Krishna.
Krishna Holds Our Hand
Just as a father lovingly holds his child’s hand while crossing a busy road, Krishna guides and protects those who sincerely call upon Him through attentive japa.
Humility Leads to Compassion
When we understand that most mistakes arise from ignorance, forgiveness becomes natural. A humble heart does not judge—it prays for others and shows compassion.
Conclusion
Every attentive round of japa reminds us of our true identity. As our chanting becomes more conscious, our heart becomes purer, our humility deepens, and our eternal relationship with Krishna awakens.
