Determination Attracts Divine Mercy
“Our determination invites Guru’s mercy, and Guru’s mercy leads us to Krishna.”
A well-known Vaishnava story tells of a tiny sparrow whose eggs were swept away by the ocean. Though she knew she could never empty the ocean, she remained determined, carrying one drop of water at a time in her tiny beak. Seeing her unwavering resolve, Garuda intervened, and the ocean returned her eggs.
This is the essence of bhakti. Our spiritual success is not determined by our strength but by our determination. The moment we firmly fix our goal to serve Krishna, Guru’s mercy begins to guide and empower us.
Svetasvatar Upanishad 6.23 beautifully explains that when one has equal devotion to the Supreme Lord and the spiritual master, the truths of spiritual life are revealed by their mercy.
The same principle is seen in the pastime of Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya and King Prataparudra. When Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya witnessed the King’s unwavering determination to receive the mercy of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, he helped him obtain Mahaprabhu’s mercy . As a result, King Prataparudra was blessed with the priceless mercy and divine embrace of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
May we also remain firmly determined in our chanting, service, and devotion, knowing that sincere determination attracts Guru’s mercy, and Guru’s mercy brings us closer to Krishna.
Hare Krishna
