The Two Ropes of the Ratha - Harinam and Sadhu Sang
During Ratha Yatra, Lord Jagannath mercifully comes out of His temple to meet everyone. It is His loving invitation for us to welcome Him into our hearts.
From a devotional perspective, we can remember the two ropes of the chariot as representing Harinam and Sadhu Sang. Through these two powerful gifts, our hearts become purified, our false ego is softened, and we develop sincerity and humility.
When our hearts are cleansed by Harinam and Sadhu Sang, they become a suitable place for Lord Jagannath to reside. Pulling the ropes of the Lord’s chariot symbolizes not only drawing the Lord forward, but also inviting Him into our own hearts.
“O Lord Jagannath, please accept my humble and sincere heart as Your home and engage me in Your loving service.”
Hare Krishna 🙏
